Special offer provides food for thought for Bristol students

Hundreds of Bristol students have the chance to snap up a fantastic free meal at a new city centre Chinese restaurant.

Dao Chao opened in Broad Quay in January as a casual Chinese restaurant and cocktail bar.

Between Monday 22 April and Friday 26 April, the first 100 students through the door on each day will be able to eat for free.

That’s a total of 500 students who will get a chance to sample the new restaurants menu for nothing.

Owner Yen-ting Miu said: “We opened at the end of January and, knowing that Bristol has a big student community, we wanted to make them aware of the fact that we are here, and are affordable to students.

“We often hear about how students exist on very lower budgets so we thought a great way for us to introduce ourselves to the local student community was to offer 500 free meals.”

To qualify for the offer, students simply need to turn up at the restaurant between April 22 and 26 and present a valid student ID. The first 100 on each day who do that will eat for free.

If more than 100 turn up on any of the days, those who don’t qualify for a free meal can still enjoy a slap-up meal without breaking the bank because the restaurant also has a 50%-off student offer running.

Yen-ting Miu said: “We offer a smaller menu than many other Chinese restaurants but put the emphasis on quality, and I am sure we have something to appeal to everyone, in a relaxed environment.

“What sets us apart is that we offer Chinese dining in a Western style, where you can have a starter and a main course, but also share a meal in a banquet-style of dining.

“We also have an extensive cocktail menu, offering a blend of classic favourites with some of our own original creations.

“We are not a fine dining establishment and not a fast food outlet – we think of ourselves as being right in the middle, a family-friendly affordable restaurant that anyone would be able to come to and find something they like.

“We look forward to welcoming some of the city’s students from April 22 and hope they like what they see – and eat, of course – and that they will be hungry to come back for more.

“Dao Chao is an independent venue which strives to be the best at what we do.”
