Mooncakes on the menu as China Bureau marks min-autumn festival

Chinese mooncakes were on the menu as business leaders gathered in Bristol to celebrate the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival.

The Bristol and West of England China Bureau hosted the evening of music and food at the old Harveys Wine Cellars, situated below Wongs Restaurant in the city centre.

Dianne Francombe, Chief Executive of the Bristol and West of England China Bureau, said: “In Chinese culture, the Mid–Autumn Festival is a tradition which celebrates the new season, the full moon and the fruits of summer.

“It is a time when family and friends often celebrate by getting together to hang lanterns and eat mooncakes, a traditional delicacy commonly made with red bean or lotus seed paste, and egg yolk.

“China is a huge and growing market and we are working to strengthen relationships and expand our connections, especially with southern China and Bristol’s twin city of Guangzhou.

“Evenings such as this provide a platform for all sorts of businesses across the region to develop understanding and connect with like-minded organisations, strengthening business and cultural ties.”

Bristol’s Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Cleo Lake, was guest speaker at the event.

“In these challenging times, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a great opportunity for people from different cultures and traditions to get together and celebrate what makes us human,” she said.
