The University of Bristol's roots date back to 1876. Since its formation it has become one of the leading institutions among the UK's Russell Group of universities and operates globally, where it is recognised for its research and academic excellence. It is currently ranked a top 10 UK university and 58th in the world (QS World Rankings 2021), due to its outstanding teaching and research, its superb facilities and highly talented students and staff. It is the 4th most targeted UK university by top employers (High Fliers 2020).
The university provides higher education opportunities for almost 30000 learners drawn from over 140 countries. Of these, about 400 students a year travel from China to undertake their studies.
UWE Bristol employs a team of seven staff based in China as part of UWE International Educational Services.
Whilst at UWE, students from China are supported through the Global Centre. A wide range of support services and activities are arranged to help enrich the student experience.

Situated at Knowle Hall, the Somerset Cultural Centre is owned by the Yew Wah Foundation and accommodates students from all over China who attend different schools in the foundation. Based in Somerset, the visiting students participate in a range of activities that allow them to gain exposure to the western culture.
The UWE Bristol international talent programme provides local employers and UWE Bristol international undergraduate and postgraduate students with better opportunities and better connections for sharing knowledge, information and skills. The UWE Bristol international talent programme offers local employers opportunities such as the international talent internship scheme. This enables local employers to take on an international undergraduate or postgraduate student with the full support of UWE Bristol infrastructure and expertise. The international talent programme are also able to connect with charities and public interest companies who wish to take on international student volunteers for short or long term projects.

Bristol International College (BIC) is a new University of London Recognised Teaching Centre located in the heart of Bristol. The College is approved to teach the University of London International Foundation Programme (IFP) to a selected cohort of international students who wish to access the top UK and international universities. From September 2021, BIC will be offering both an on-campus and an online version of the IFP to enable students to start at their first-choice university in October 2022.
